[Coral-List] Seeking Program Director for VI-EPSCoR

The University of the Virgin Islands seeks a creative researcher and administrator to serve as Director of the Virgin Islands EPSCoR program (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research), funded by the National Science Foundation. The VI-EPSCoR program is hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands which is a small but dynamic Historically Black publicly supported land-grant institution and the only institution of higher learning in the Virgin Islands. The successful candidate will lead an innovative program which involves building capacity within UVI and the Territory for scientific research in the area of Caribbean coastal ecosystems, developing the local workforce through strengthening STEM Education, and enhancing outreach and informal education to the Virgin Islands community. Key scientific disciplines within the research program include coral reef dynamics, disease and demographics, reef fish ecology, coastal oceanography, watershed hydrology and management, environmental science and human dimensions. A key component of the program is integration of research disciplines, building innovative research data capabilities and coordination and enhancement of IT infrastructure.



The Program Director provides direction, leadership and support for an energetic team of faculty and staff; explores innovative solutions for sustainable development of research infrastructure and new facilities; fosters partnerships with the local government and business community to enhance opportunities for economic development; coordinates request for proposals for major grants from NSF and other federal agencies to continue to build research capacity within the territory and enhance research opportunities for students. The Program Director serves as the principal liaison between the University and the National Science Foundation on all matters related to VI-EPSCoR, and is the lead representative for the program in the U. S. Virgin Islands. The Director is responsible for the overall management of the VI-EPSCoR program, consulting with the VI-EPSCoR Governing Committee, establishing and controlling budgets and expenditures, and ensuring that all deadlines and requirements are met for the program. The Director provides management, leadership and administration of federally grant-funded programs, research management, and management of complex budgets. The Director also provides excellent communication, leadership, and management to VI-EPSCoR and is responsible for developing job descriptions and performance objectives for the staff, implementing the program's strategic plan, actively planning for the succession, growth, and sustainability for VI-EPSCoR, and performing other related duties as assigned.
