EDUCATION AND OUTREACH INTERN (6 months)
REPORTS TO: Education Programme Manager
This is a full-time internship ideal for a recent graduate with an academic
marine science background and/or experience with teaching and knowledge of
coral reef ecology. The intern will lead and assist teaching a number of
residential courses, including intensive three day courses for local K-12
students, undergraduate courses and citizen science programs at the Little
Cayman Research Centre. The intern will assist in promoting our K-12 and
college level programs to ensure they are fully enrolled. Individuals with
creativity are encouraged to apply to develop new curriculum and work on
CCMI's new ReefsGoLive project that streams livestreams interactive lessons.
Good photography skills and social networking skills are required to
communicate CCMI's message and achievements.
The position will also require assisting our research team with various
projects such as coral nursery maintenance and AGRRA surveys. We are looking
for a versatile individual that can adapt to multiple different roles and
willing to learn quickly.
The Education and Outreach Intern reports directly to the Education
Programme Manager but at times may assist any member of CCMI's staff.
The position has significant responsibilities and the intern will often be
working with minors, in the field/water, and will be required to often work
outside normal hours. The intern will be responsible for cleaning the
classroom and work stations before and after each course. As a member of
staff you will contribute to the daily task of running a remote field
station. This is a physically demanding position with often very long hours
(12+ hours a day).
Please note that all senior staff live offsite and it will be expected of
the intern to stay at the station on evenings when school groups are present
in case of an emergency.

* BSc in Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Studies etc.
* Rescue diver
* Working with young students
* Good public speaker
* Caribbean fish, coral and algae identification skills
* Divemaster or higher
* First aid qualification
* Boat handling skills
* Teaching experience
* Working on a remote small island
* Experienced photographer and film making
* Experience with creating marketing materials
A small living stipend along with US$250 towards reimbursing your flight.
You will be provided accommodation at the Little Cayman Research Centre and
3 meals a day for the term of your internship. Candidates should note that
Little Cayman is a remote island without some of the amenities you would
otherwise find, as a result some items including food and entertainment can
be more expensive.
