Dear listers,

I am passing on a message from a colleague involved in the PharmaSea
project (http://www.pharma-sea.eu/) that will surely be relevant to many
of you, and raises awareness on a very important practical and ethical
issue. I took to the survey myself and found it really interesting.

Best regards and happy new year!

Martina

** apologies for cross posting **

The PharmaSea project, funded by the European Union Framework Programme
7 (FP7), represents a model marine biodiscovery pipeline within which
existing challenges hampering marine biodiscovery research and
development (R&D) are addressed.

Within the PharmaSea project, one work package (WP6) focuses on the
legal and policy bottlenecks relevant to the sampling and utilization of
marine biological resources.

In this context this survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NJXTGG9 -
open till the 10th of February) is being carried out to obtain
information on how biological material from the marine environment is
obtained and used in R&D. The results of this survey will be used to:

• develop tools which will support scientists navigate the legal
framework governing sampling and / or the use of marine genetic
resources for R&D.

• inform policy in relation to developing regulations governing the
sampling and use of these resources in R&D. Thank you for participating!
