PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

 

CCMI and Rutgers University invite students to apply for our Coral Reef
Internship programme. Participants will work alongside our research team on
collecting field data whilst learning about principles of tropical ecology,
sustainability and management, through a workshop series. Students will
develop data into a series of group research posters that may be published
or presented at a national or international conference. Come be a part of 15
years of active research by CCMI at one of the world's most beautiful coral
reef systems surrounding Little Cayman and the Bloody Bay Marine Park. 

 

You will gain experience in:

 

*	Caribbean fish, coral and algae identification
*	Underwater field methods (transects/roving surveys)
*	CoralNet software analysis
*	Lionfish dissections
*	Coral nursery maintenance
*	Sea urchin surveys
*	Turtle nesting surveys
*	Data analysis
*	Poster and oral presentation skills
*	Working at a research station on a remote island

 

** Students are eligible to transfer 4 Undergraduate/Graduate Credits **

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

- Open Water Diver certified or certified by the time they arrive on Little
Cayman (Advanced certification or higher preferred)

- Good academic standing

- Must be physically fit to work long field days in the sun and on the water

 

APPLICATION TIMETABLE

 

Application deadline is March 1st 2017. Registration is limited to 16
students so early application is encouraged. Certified SCUBA divers are
encouraged to apply, but non-certified participants are also accepted if
they intend to become certified before they arrive on site.

 

REGISTRATION

 

Undergraduate and graduate course credit is offered through the Rutgers
University Institute of Marine & Coastal Sciences and the Rutgers Study
Abroad programme. Credits are transferable. All registration requirements
and payment for this course must be processed through Rutgers Study Abroad
