Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow/Research Associate in the Baker Laboratory (http://www.thelifeisotopic.com<http://www.thelifeisotopic.com/>) at The Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS), to commence in July 2017 for two years, with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in molecular ecology, ecosystem modelling, or other biodiversity related disciplines. They should have a demonstrated publication record of question driven science in the field of marine biodiversity and/or ecosystem functioning research. They should also have a toolkit comprised of a solid foundation in field ecology, laboratory experience, and computational molecular biology related but not limited to metagenetics, metatranscriptomics, next-generation sequencing platforms, and comparative analyses of big data and bioinformatics. A proven capacity to lead fieldwork expeditions including the use of SCUBA is essential. The position is paired with a research assistant who will assist the post holder in all research activities.
The appointee will be based at SWIMS (http://www.swims.hku.hk<http://www.swims.hku.hk/>) located in the Cape d'Aguilar Marine Reserve on the southeast corner of Hong Kong Island. He/She will combine field and laboratory work at SWIMS and analytical power at the University's main campus under a newly formed research initiative funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund “MarineGEO-Hong Kong: Towards an Understanding of Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Function”. The primary duties will include conducting field sampling of passive samplers deployed in marine waters around Hong Kong, associated laboratory work and analysis, and supervising ecosystem function assays.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. Affordable accommodation at the laboratory residence can be arranged by the Institute subject to availability.
