CORAL REEF RESTORATION WORKSHOP

Maldives, 24Nov - 3Dec 2017

The University of Milano-Bicocca, in partnership with Corales de Paz, are really keen to give their global contribution to the Coral Reef restoration due to the dramatic effects that Climate Change is bringing all over our oceans.

At this purpose, we organize for all those who want to join us in this important scientific mission, a 10-day intensive full-time 80 hours’ hands-on, in-water practical program. The workshop touches on current best practices, appropriate design, logistics and evaluation of a restoration project and the program will be divided into a series of classroom lessons and field activities. Lessons will be held at the MaRHE Center (www.marhe.unimib.it) in Magoodhoo Island, Faafu Atoll, MALDIVES.

All field activities will be carried out on SCUBA diving and snorkelling equipment.

Content of the workshop

The course will consist of a series of lectures and field activities held by international researchers with experience working in tropical marine environments.

After this training period you will be able to:
build mid water coral nursery
populate coral nurseries
out-plant corals onto a degraded reef site
improve your knowledge on corals identifications
assess coral health conditions
carry out an own coral reef restoration project

By attending to the workshop, participants will be provided with a certificate of practices and knowledge on coral reef restoration trough an international virtual credit named Open Badge released by the University of the Milano-Bicocca.
