[Coral-List] Post Hurricane Algal Outbreak

Esteemed colleagues,
ADCP data demonstrated strong, storm-related upwelling in the Dania Beach area.  A 4-6 deg C temperature drop occurred, which was probably associated with a nutrient pulse.
Our benthic ctenophore team observed severe declines in these beautiful cryptic creatures, along with their octocoral substrates, and fish and gastropod predators.

Hi Austin and Shannon,
do you have a sense what mechanism caused the blooms - are you suspecting
(1) input of nutrient associated with the storms, floods, and mixing or (2) resuspension of dormant cysts or cryptic life-history stages of the algae by waves, or some other process?
