 Aloha,

The Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR) is
currently recruiting a Data Management Specialist within the PIFSC
Ecosystem Sciences Division based in Honolulu, HI.  The JIMAR PIFSC Data
Management Specialist position is now posted on the RCUH website (

DUTIES: As a part of the Data Management Team, provides Data Management
stewardship (including archival metadata) for coral reef ecosystem and
oceanographic monitoring and research, sociological,  and geographical
data sets. Develops advanced programming tools and database management
applications for the collection, capture, manipulation, integration,
maintenance, and dissemination of data, in both raw and summarized form for
internal and public use. Will participate in NOAA cruises to the Hawaiian
Archipelago and remote Pacific areas as a cruise data manager. The Data
Management Team collectively supports all the data management needs of the
Ecosystem Sciences Division (including the former Coral Reef Ecosystem
Program), and while the successful candidate is not expected to possess
expertise in all areas, they will need to be adaptable and possess an open
attitude toward learning on a number of levels.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an
accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer, Physical, or
Biological Science; or Mathematics; or Statistics; or Engineering.

EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of professional level work experience
utilizing state of the art programming languages, scripts and editors. One
to three (1-3) years of professional level work experience in the design,
development and support of relational databases and their applications,
including operational experience in the data management functional areas of
data collection, capture, processing, maintenance, archival (including
metadata), and dissemination. Significant working knowledge of relational
database management software such as ORACLE, MySQL, and/or Microsoft (MS)
Access and significant working knowledge of tools such as Oracle APEX,
C/C++ and Procedural Language/Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) or their
equivalent.
