Dear Coral Listers,

We'd like to bring to your attention the following recent publication: "Evidence of acclimatization or adaptation in Hawaiian corals to higher ocean temperatures", which compares the results of a 2017 experiment that closely replicated one conducted in 1970 that was the first to show coral bleaching under flowing seawater at controlled elevated temperatures. The recent experiment determined a significant upward shift in bleaching temperature thresholds and less reduction in calcification in the high temperature treatment in 2017. The paper is available open access from PeerJ at https://peerj.com/articles/5347/.

Best regards,

Steve Coles and the Coral Reef Ecology Lab, Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology
