Dear colleagues:

We would like to draw your attention to a meeting session on:

*Flooding on Coral Reef-lined Coasts: Current State of Knowledge and Future
Challenges*

at the 51st annual American Geophysical Union’s 2018 Fall Meeting, which
will be held 10-14 December 2018 in Washington, DC. Please visit the
conference website for more information:

*Aim and Scope of this Session, 44473:*

Wave-driven coastal flooding is a challenging scientific and emerging
societal problem. The need for forecasts and warnings is becoming more
urgent due to sea-level rise, climate change, and ever-growing coastal
populations. This is especially true for coral reef-lined coasts that have
complex bathymetry, hydrodynamically rough reef platforms, steep and poorly
sorted beaches, and low coastal elevations. To advance our understanding
and skill at predicting flooding on coral reef-lined coasts, a concerted
effort from a number of disciplines, including climatology, oceanography,
geology, and ecology, is required. This meeting session focuses on
advancements in understanding and predicting local sea levels, offshore
wave climates, wave transformation and water levels across reefs, and
linkages between coral reefs and shorelines. Summaries of current local or
regional-scale studies, including modeling exercises, are encouraged,
especially if they evaluate responses to changes in sea level or the impact
on infrastructure, habitats, agriculture, or freshwater availability.
