Hello Coral Listers,
We just recently had a manuscript published in *Nature Communications*
about corals and their evolution with bacteria. This project evaluated over
650 coral microbiomes and over 150 metadata variables collected across a
wide host taxonomic and geographic range, representing over 450 million
years of evolution and 17 degrees of latitude. This approach allowed us to
disentangle the effects of habitat variables from host trait effects, and
we found strong evidence that microbiome richness reflects coral phylogeny.
We also found evidence for co-diversification of some microbial groups with
their coral hosts, including many unexpected bacterial taxa not previously
recognized as coral symbionts. The paper is open access. Here is the link
and if you have questions please let me know. -Becky
