CALL FOR PAPERS: Special Issue of *Coral Reefs*

*Coral Reefs in a Changing World: Insights from Extremes*

*TENTATIVE EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST*: Please complete this *brief form*
<https://goo.gl/forms/ab2UzRfWIlg9MH7v2> if you are considering submitting
a manuscript to allow the editors to contact you with any updates. The
final submission deadline is 15 November, 2019.

Reef scientists are increasingly studying contemporary coral reefs
occurring in marginal and extreme environments to develop an understanding
of how reef organisms in other parts of the world may respond to future
environmental change. Reefs occurring in thermally extreme habitats, high
latitude environments, highly turbid or mesophotic settings, or near
volcanic vents, among others, act as natural laboratories in which
researchers are developing an understand of how reef organisms respond to
extreme and/or variable environmental conditions, and how such flora and
fauna may acclimate or adapt to changing conditions elsewhere in the world
in the coming decades.

*Coral Reefs* is pleased to invite authors to contribute manuscripts to a
Special Issue titled *Coral Reefs in a Changing World: Insights from
Extremes*. This issue will go beyond characterizing what defines
extreme/marginal reef systems, and will instead focus on original research
that explores the physiological, behavioral, and ecological responses of
reef biota (from individuals to assemblages) that allow them to cope with
highly variable and extreme reef environments. We encourage submissions
from researchers working on an array of extreme or marginal reef habitats
from geographic regions around the globe.
Papers can be submitted to this Special Issue anytime on or before *15
November, 2019*, with accepted papers published online as soon as they are
finalized. All papers will then be published together in mid-2020 as a
single issue of *Coral Reefs*. Please note that a *full call for papers*
