[Coral-List] Post Doc Position- Mesophotic coral thermal tolerance at Old Dominion University

Dear Coral-listers,

The Barshis Lab (www.odu.edu/~dbarshis) in the Department of Biological
Sciences at Old Dominion University, has a Post-Doctoral Research Associate
position available in mesophotic coral thermal tolerance. The project is
aimed at characterizing the molecular stress response and assessing thermal
thresholds in mesophotic scleractinian corals in American Samoa. This
position is supported by a National Park Service Conway Science Fellowship
and will work closely with the American Samoa NOAA Deep Coral Reef
Ecosystem Studies team (including researchers from ODU, FWS, NOAA, Univ. of
Hawai'i, and the Bishop Museum). Applicants must be US citizens, have a PhD
in marine biology, marine science, or a closely related field, and be no
more than 3 years post-graduation at the time of application. A background
in experimental physiology, molecular biology, and experience with
manipulative coral stress experiments is strongly preferred. The successful
candidate will be expected to travel to field sites 1-2 times/year for 3-4
weeks at a time to conduct field and laboratory work. Competitive
applicants will comfortable coordinating and conducting research in the
field; AAUS Scientific Diver certification and familiarity with next
generation sequencing techniques is also desired. The position is open
immediately and the appointment is required to begin no later than January
of 2020 with the potential for a 2-3 year total project duration. The

Coordinate and conduct field and laboratory research in American Samoa with
the expectation of publishing 1-2 peer-reviewed manuscripts from the
experimental results.
