[Coral-List] Masters of Science on deep-sea corals in Newfoundland and Labrador waters (Atlantic Canada)

Memorial University of Newfoundland/Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Fully 
funded two-year Masters of Science position: growth, longevity, and 
biodiversity of forests of the small bamboo coral /Acanella arbuscula/ 
in the Labrador Sea, Canada.

We seek a Masters student for a fully-funded two year study of the small 
bamboo coral, /Acanella arbuscula/, in the Labrador Sea, Canada.The 
project goals will focus on determining the growth rates and lifespan of 
these corals, and surveying the biodiversity associated with them using 
ROV video surveys and analysis of samples.The project will include a 
summer 2020 voyage aboard the Canadian scientific icebreaker CCGS 
Amundsen and ROV-based sample collection and video surveys of the 
biodiversity found in small bamboo.

Applicants should have a background in marine biology, biochemistry, 
geology, geochemistry, or oceanography, or related 
discipline.Familiarity with GIS and statistical skills are also 
desirable. The student should be available to begin their program in May 
2020, in order to participate in the CCGS Amundsen voyage in summer 
2020.All qualified applicants are welcome.
