[Coral-List] Velaa Private Island Coral Restoration Internship

[Marine Biology]

Velaa Private Island is one of the most prestigious resorts in the Maldives. With that, guest experience is of the utmost importance and all of the following requirements must be met in order to be considered for the position.
General weekly duties schedule\role:

  *   Data collection and entry
  *   Report to the resident marine biologist and coral biologist
  *   Coral Restoration Project duties including constructing, monitoring, and maintaining multiple coral nurseries, transplanting coral colonies to the reef, and conducting scientific surveys
  *   Assisting the Marine Biologist carrying out marine center activities with guest
  *   Awareness talks to guests
  *   Small personal project

Professional Requirements:

  *   Rescue Diver with at least 100 logged dives
  *   Strong knowledge of marine biology, corals, and coral restoration
  *   Degree in Marine Biology or related field preferred
  *   Previous experience with coral restoration projects is an advantage

Personal Requirements:

  *   Interactive, friendly & creative
  *   Passion about Conservation and Sustainability
  *   Self-motivated, professional & full of positive energy
  *   Excellent communication skills
  *   Ability to work well independently and in a team

Terms & conditions:

  *   Must provide own dive insurance and copies of dive certifications
  *   Own SCUBA mandatory (BCD, regulator, dive computer, mask, fins, snorkel, rash guard or  wetsuit required)
  *   Visa costs and health insurance covered by Resort

  *   Working days: 8 hours a day x 6 days per week
  *   Accommodation (shared room), meals (staff restaurant) & duty uniform provided by Resort

  *   Must maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene at all times.
  *   No visible piercings and no visible tattoos whilst wearing uniform (shorts and short sleeved polo shirt).
