Dear coral researchers,
We invite abstracts for the "Applications of Reef Condition Surveys (AGRRA, etc.) in Support of Research, Management, and Restoration” session at the 39th AMLC meeting on "Marine Connectivity in the Caribbean," to be held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on May 20-24, 2019. Please note the submission deadline for abstracts is February 20, 2019!

A more detailed description of the session follows:
Examples of reef health survey data collected via AGRRA or similar methods that are being applied to inform management, conservation, research, or restoration will be highlighted. Over the past 20 years, large scale, one-time assessments of very large reef areas have been used to drive the establishment or zoning of marine protected areas, highlight critical threats, or characterize structural and functional attributes for research. Practitioners are increasingly using the assessment approach to monitor change over time with trends in the data applied to drive changes to policy such as fishing management or carbon emissions. More recently, reef surveys are being used to inform restoration decision-making, including identification of donor sites, restoration sites, and evaluation of restoration success. The limitations and comparability of survey data, and examples of adapting the AGRRA protocol to best support the current needs on the ground in Caribbean countries, will also be discussed.
