I agree with Karl on all points.  I don't think anonymous content does much
good here if it is not referenced, particularly if someone is using an
anonymous source to provide evidence for an argument.

In regards to the PNG data, I think we should be cautious in placing too
much emphasis on regional data only when discussing a global phenomenon, as
we risk turning from data to local anecdotes.  I am not saying the PNG data
aren't data, but I have seen data from a colleague's study site (similar
spatiotemporal scale) where SST has increased by 2 degrees C just over the
last fifteen years.  This is a complex, global phenomenon that requires
careful assessment at scales greater than 1 decade and region, and we know
that regional drivers such as wind and oscillations can swamp warming
trends over short time periods.  There are nuances to the patterns as the
literature show.  This is why we have the IPCC reports.  Do we want to
start pulling out nuances to prove our points and fail to employ the global
data we have?
