[Coral-List] vote now to help us get a coral genome sequenced

On the topic of those interested in genomic sequencing (you have
sequencing you would like to be done)

You provide the DNA and proposal,

The Joint Genome Institute (funded by US DOE) provides the sequencing

CSP2020 Open Now
The 2020 Large-Scale Community Science Program (CSP) call is now open
for letters of intent for peer-reviewed genomic science projects
entailing DNA/RNA sequencing, single-cell genomics, metabolomics, and
DNA analysis in support of the following targets:

Genes-to-function
Plant functional genomics and microbiomes
Inter-organismal interactions
Microbes and communities involved in elemental cycling in terrestrial
and coastal environments
Algal genomics

Letters of Intent submission deadline: April 11, 2019. Submit one now.
For scope or JGI capabilities questions, contact: JGI: Susannah Tringe.

Another potential "free" resource is

The Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) system serves as a community
resource for analysis and annotation of genome and metagenome datasets
in a comprehensive comparative context. The IMG data warehouse
integrates genome and metagenome datasets provided by IMG users with a
comprehensive set of publicly available genome and metagenome
datasets.

You provide the sequencing data, we provide the functional analysis.

This is one of those types of things were bigger is better. Its easy
to manage a small group of large proposals than thousands of small
ones.

But nothing wrong with going small to work into the relationship so
there is more confidence you can provide quality samples for something
bigger next year.

Personally, my job is prepping and assembling 1000's of metagenomic
datasets to be entered into IMG.

With the whole genome of Isopora, we will be able to do comparative genomics with Acropora and answer a whole range of functional and phylogeographic questions. By making the genome publicly available we also anticipate it will be an important genomic resource for wider applications.
