Aloha,

The Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR) is
currently recruiting an Oceanographer within the NOAA Pacific Islands
Fisheries Science Center based in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a part of a team of
researchers in the Ecosystem Sciences Division, the Oceanographer will
assess ecological impacts to the coral reef ecosystems in the U.S. Pacific
Islands (Hawaii Archipelago, Marianas Archipelago, American Samoa, and the
Pacific Remote Islands Areas) from multiple environmental drivers with a
focus on local warming and changes in the coastal carbonate system.

DUTIES: Applies advanced statistical techniques to analyze and interpret
oceanographic data with the purpose of examining the relationship between
oceanographic processes and coral reef ecosystem dynamics. Prepares
technical reports and scientific manuscripts summarizing results of these
analyses and presents findings at national and international meetings.
Designs and develops software tools and data management procedures to
analyze, integrate, and visualize ecosystem data. Assists with planning and
implementing oceanographic surveys and field operations. Participates in
research cruises, marine ecosystem surveys, and observation networks to
assess and monitor coral reefs. Assists with management of the project,
including proposal writing and training and guidance of junior-personnel in
operating equipment, conducting field surveys, and processing data. Travels
to workshops, conferences, and meetings to gather information and present
results of the project to interested parties. Field surveys will typically
require a significant amount of time at sea (~30 days per year).
