Dear coral-listers,

We need more than ever the population at large to care enough about climate
change and nature degradation to demand change.

People need to know it in a way that they sense the emergency of the
situation without feeling hopeless.

Storytelling is the most effective way to engage people. Humans have been
telling stories for thousands of years. It’s in our essence.

So more than two years ago, I started to create a young-adult fiction novel
that tackles topics such as climate change, pollution and overfishing
through a moving adventure with touches of humor and action. I even took a
sabbatical year to focus my time and energy on it because I believe that
everyone’s contribution to face this crisis counts, and as a marine
scientist and a novelist, this is the unique contribution I can make to the
corals besides living in a more sustainable way.

Today, I want to share *Lorac *with you because it’s a powerful tool to
engage one part of the public that needs a different “seed” to grow
awareness. Storytelling makes the difference because we immerse ourselves
in the story as if we were experiencing it. We experience information
together with a strong emotional component, which is part of the reasons so
many people love stories.

> *Lorac is the boy adopted by the ocean—its voice and unwilling hero.*

To join you in the urgent goal of spreading the word about the need to
preserve our planet, the book is available in Spanish and English, and on
paper and ebook format. The last can be downloaded at www.ImWithLorac.com
at the price the reader sets so that people with few resources can access
it for free, and all proceeds will go towards spreading awareness of the
book and making it more accessible.

So far, the first readers loved it and it has even inspired some of them to
do things for the environment that they wouldn’t have done before.

Finally, I want to thank all of you for the work you do every day. It is
necessary for our oceans and it has been of help and inspiration to write
*Lorac*. This book is also for you. You won’t find any other novel with
such an evocation of―and paean to―the coral reefs.

With best wishes to spread social awareness, all together.
