Coral-list,

We are seeking applications for a highly motivated PhD student to develop a
trait-based framework of temperature-dependent coral disease transmission.
The research will involve fieldwork and manipulative laboratory experiments
to characterise the thermal performance of coral hosts and pathogens across
a suite of biological traits. The successful candidate will work in a
multidisciplinary team and may develop additional research questions based
on personal interests. The ideal candidate will have microbiology
experience, scuba diving certification (preferably Dive Master or higher),
and evidence of a strong academic record including at least one published
peer reviewed manuscript. The position will be based at James Cook
University (JCU) in Townsville, Australia – a world-renowned research
institution for tropical marine science. The successful candidate will be
expected to apply for a competitive Postgraduate Research Scholarship
offered through JCU . The position is open to both Australian and
non-Australian citizens. Please send inquiries and expressions of interest
(cover letter and CV) to Dr. Jamie Caldwell (jamie.sziklay at gmail.com) by 13
th September 2019. The supervisory team will additionally include Dr. Scott
Heron (scott.heron at jcu.edu.au) and A/Prof David Bourne (
david.bourne at jcu.edu.au).

Thank you,

Jamie, Scott, and David
