[Coral-List] Remote meetings

Dear List,

A little background: I was Treasurer of the ISRS for 8 years and also
served as a Council Member.

The first ICRS I went to was in the 1990s.  There were perhaps 100
attendees and you could meet people and go to all the presentations of
interest.

The last ICRS I went to was Ft Lauderdale in 2008.  There were an
estimated 2000 attendees and no way to go to all the the presentations
that I was interested in.  It was more like a DEMA than a scientific
meeting with a large number of booths hawking various items.  It was the
last ICRS I attended.  Just too darned many people.

As an aside, the ISRS had a booth which my wife and I manned. Despite
promises from several the council members to help, the only on I
remember showing up was Isabel Cote - thanks Izzie.

In my opinion, as I have stated on this list at other times: Global
climate change has been bad for coral reefs but great for coral-reef
scientists.

Also as an aside, the item I just read on the Coral List was under the
heading "Remote Meetings" but the whole content was on the number of
coal-fired power plants in the US.
