Mon Feb 10 19:59:43 UTC 2020

Aloha,

The Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR) is
currently recruiting *TWO* Marine Ecosystem Research Analysts within the
PIFSC Ecosystem Sciences Division based in Honolulu, HI.

PIFSC implements NOAA’s National Coral Reef Monitoring Program (NCRMP)
across the U.S. Pacific Islands, tracking biological trends and recording
climate- and human-driven impacts on coral reefs. Analysts will lead the
processing, analysis, and interpretation of data from marine-ecosystem
surveys to produce data products informative for management needs of
federal partners, local jurisdictions, and collaborative research
institutions. Thus, preference will be given to candidates with strong
quantitative skills, including experience managing and QCing large
datasets, applying appropriate multivariate and spatial statistical
procedures to analyze data, and proficiency with the statistical-computing
software, R. These positions also include a field component, whereby
Analysts participate in research cruises and conduct marine-ecosystem
surveys of the U.S. Pacific Islands using SCUBA (maximum of 30-60 days per
year). Although the successful candidates should have a general working
knowledge of marine ecology and coral-reef systems in order to conduct a
variety of analyses to meet program needs, initial projects for each
Analyst will focus on one of the following: (1) analyze patterns in fish
assemblages across space and time from both Pacific-wide surveys (NCRMP)
and data collected by jurisdictional partners, and maintain collaborations
with statewide partners to continue monitoring the state of reefs inside
versus outside the Kahekili Marine Reserve (Herbivore Enhancement Area) in
Ka’anapali, Maui; or (2) evaluate the role of thermal stress in shifts in
benthic communities across the U.S. Pacific and extract structural
complexity data using Structure-from-Motion to understand the degree to
which complexity drives ecosystem structure and function.

DEADLINE: Please note the deadline to apply is *February 18, 2020.*

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and starting at $5,300/mo.
