Ocean warming is speeding up, with devastating consequences

In 25 years, the oceans have absorbed heat equivalent to the energy of 3.6
BILLION Hiroshima-size atom bomb explosions, the study's lead author said.

See especially the first graph. It shows that the heat content in the
ocean was rising slowly until about 1987, at which time it sped up and has
been rising fast ever since then, in a straight line.

"But this problem is solvable," he said. "The first thing we need to do is
use energy more wisely. Let's not waste energy for no reason. Let's make
our cars, homes and workplaces more efficient. In the end, we will reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and save money."

Last winter I visited Seattle, Wa, USA where I used to live. From the
train, I could see that it had snowed recently, and many houses had an even
layer of 1-2 inches of snow on the roof. But others had NO snow on the
roof, because it had been melted by heat because they didn't have
insulation in the attic!! Unbelievable in this day and age. It's cheap,
it's quick and easy to do, I've done it on every house I've owned and it
pays for itself quickly in lower heat bills. My guess is the houses were
rental units. Insulating doesn't save the owner money, and renters don't
want to pay to fix someone else's house.
The increasing heat in the ocean is, of course, the cause of mass
coral bleaching that is killing corals and will likely kill 80-90% of all
corals if we don't get greenhouse gas emissions reduced.

"Global warming is manifestly the foremost current threat to coral reefs,
and must be addressed by the global community if reefs as we know them will
have any chance to persist." Williams et al, 2019, Frontiers in Marine
