Hello everyone,

As previously mentioned on this listserv, this year’s annual meeting of the
American Fisheries Society (AFS) will be held from Aug. 30-Sept. 3, 2020 in
Columbus, Ohio.

We are seeking abstracts for a habitat-focused symposium, titled
“Conserving Habitat for Fisheries – Contemporary and Novel Approaches”
(#9388)

The symposium details are as follows:

There are many tools that are used to conserve habitat that American
fisheries rely on to grow and reproduce through ecosystem-based management.
This symposium asks what new tools have been or are being developed that
will allow managers to select more effective strategies that reduce
uncertainty and lower risk to the fisheries; and how can regulatory
mechanisms be better aligned to encourage voluntary compliance? The goals
of this symposium are to take stock of current trends and direct
anthropogenic threats in fisheries habitat conservation (e.g., habitat
modification), evaluate existing mechanisms for dealing with them, and
consider future pathways for addressing non-fishing impacts more
comprehensively. Participants will leave the symposium with a renewed focus
on steps that we can take at the state, regional, and federal levels to
strengthen our fisheries through conservation of habitat.

The deadline to submit abstracts is now *Monday,* *March 23, 2020.*
