[Coral-List] My Octopus Teacher

My students and I talk in advance about what to do if we encounter a school
of curious Caribbean Reef Squid. If they are lined up, facing us, we line
up, facing them. When they make signals with their arms/tentacles, we mimic
back. They get more curious, and approach. With A lot of patience, we are
sometimes lucky enough to have them slowly swim right up to us. They can
accept a gentle touch. As the late Mike DeGruy said, “you talk about your
first contact with alien life? This is it!” Highly recommended.
