No, you were correct, Doug.
Cuttlefish are in the family Sepiidae, and are "totally absent from the Americas."
By the way, if they were present in the Caribbean, their shells (cuttlebones) would wash up on Caribbean beaches -- cuttlebones distinguish cuttlefish from squids, and are pretty common on beaches within their range.

I didn't know the Caribbean had cuttlefish, never saw them.  My old 1992
copyright copy of Humann's Reef Creature Identification doesn't have it.
Been a long time since I studied the Caribbean.  I stand corrected.
