The Nature Conservancy in the US Virgin Islands is now hiring a Coral Manager and an Aquaculture Supervisor. Both of these positions work to carry out conservation work at our Coral Innovation Hub in St. Croix. The Aquaculture Supervisor oversees the intricate workings and animal husbandry in the land-based nursery facility and aquaria while the Coral Manager directs the execution of public and private awards and a staff of 5-7 employees. Coral Manager:
The USVI Coral Manager provides technical leadership and strategic planning coordination of the Caribbean Division's coral conservation activities in the US Virgin Islands. They use innovative approaches towards achieving conservation outcomes, working closely with local and international partner organizations from universities, research institutes, government agencies, and the private sector. The Coral Manager identifies, applies for, and manages relevant funding opportunities and identifies, pursues, and formalizes synergistic partnerships. They define conservation priorities and long-term conservation strategies, build strategic, scientific and technical capacity in the field and develop key partnerships with public and private organizations to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices. The USVI Coral manager supervises USVI coral conservation staff, ensuring alignment of activities with the strategic goals of the division. Coral Aquaculture Supervisor
The Coral Aquaculture Supervisor provides technical expertise and leadership and supervises land based aquaria facilities for coral husbandry and manipulative experiments, including maintenance of associated tools, equipment, and mechanical systems. They are charged with ensuring functioning of seawater systems, and maintenance of coral collections. The Coral Aquaculture Supervisor will be responsible for feeding, water quality testing, maintenance of tanks and life support systems and appropriate record keeping. They ensure that aquaria facilities are maintained and upgraded in accordance with local and federal laws and permitting requirements as well as coral program requirements.
