[Coral-List] Seeking Coral Restoration Technicians

Good day,

The University of the Virgin Islands is currently seeking candidates for 3 open specialist positions within the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies (CMES) on the St. Thomas campus.  The positions will be based on St. Thomas but all work will be focused within the National Park boundaries of St. John.  These positions are all grant-funded one-year positions with the possibility of renewal dependent on additional funding.  Applications will be accepted until December 31, 2021.

Coral Restoration Specialist: Two of these positions are open. The successful candidates will provide technical support for coral reef restoration and coral reef ecological research activities and be active members of the Virgin Islands Reef Response (VIRR) team within CMES. The Coral Restoration Specialists are expected to work primarily on field-based coral reef restoration projects aimed at restoring coral reef areas within National Park Service (NPS) managed marine environments of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Required qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and experience with coral restoration techniques, scientific diving qualifications (or equivalent), boat handling experience, and at least a Bachelor's degree. Coral Aquarist Specialist: One position is open. The successful candidate will also provide technical support for coral reef restoration and coral reef ecological research activities and be active members of the Virgin Islands Reef Response (VIRR) team within CMES. The Coral Aquarist Specialist is expected to work primarily on the rearing of reef-building corals in the flow through sea water tables at the MacLean Marine Science Center as well as support work in the VIRR-managed field-based nurseries.  The Specialist will also provide support for scientific experiments that utilize the sea water tables and for other VIRR activities within the U.S. Virgin Islands territory. Required qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and significant experience with coral husbandry and flow through seawater systems, scientific diving qualifications (or equivalent), boat handling experience, and at least a Bachelor's degree.
