Post-doc position on octocoral taxonomy, phylogenetics and biogeography
We invite applications for a full-time position as post-doctoral research fellow at the School of Zoology, George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, Tel Aviv University for a period of two years. The post-doc will be based at TAU and will be an integral participant in a joint project funded by the NSF-BSF, entitled: "The Indo-Pacific zooxanthellate octocorals: an integrated approach to species delimitation, phylogenetics and biogeography". The project is lead by Prof. Hudi Benayahu (TAU) and Prof. Cathy McFadden (Harvey Mudd College, CA, USA). For further details see https://www.researchgate.net/project/The-Indo-Pacific-zooxanthellate-octocorals-an-integrated-approach-to-species-delimitation-phylogenetics-and-biogeography.
The post doc will oversee morphological taxonomic work; travel to European museums to examine and sample type material; assist with mentoring M.Sc. and undergraduate research students; and participate in planned workshops and field trips. S/he will also visit the McFadden lab to learn genetic and bioinformatic aspects of the project, and will subsequently transfer the knowledge and skills gained back to Benayahu's lab.
The School of Zoology https://en-lifesci.tau.ac.il/zoology/ and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History https://smnh.tau.ac.il/en/about-the-museum/ at TAU support extensive research and teaching activities directly related to taxonomy, phylogenetics and coral reefs. The Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat https://iui-eilat.huji.ac.il/ hosts world renowned experts and scholars whose research is relevant to the project.
Applicants are requested to submit a copy of the PhD diploma or certificate of eligibility noting the date the degree was awarded; a letter of interest; recommendation letters from the PhD supervisor(s) and at least one other researcher affiliated with a recognized academic institution; and current CV including a list of publications.
Candidates should apply to Prof. Hudi Benayahu yehudab at tauex.tau.aca.il<mailto:yehudab at tauex.tau.aca.il> and to Prof. Cathy McFadden mcfadden at g.hmc.edu<mailto:mcfadden at g.hmc.edu>
