Aloha,

We are excited to share the MEGA Lab Augmented Reality Application with the
coral reef science community! The Multiscale Environmental Graphical
Analysis (MEGA) Lab is a next generation research facility at the
University of Hawaii at Hilo that emphasizes the importance of science,
technology and fun. We created this Augmented Reality Application to help
share coral reef data in a fun and interactive manner with broad audiences.
Here are the details and we can provide information flyers upon request
(coral-list does not allow for attachments):

*MEGA Lab AR - a coral reef in your pocket:*

*3D reconstruction techniques are being increasingly used to study benthic
marine environments. This approach generates high-resolution 3D models of
reef habitats which can be used by scientists to better understand these
complex systems. These 3D models can also be used to communicate science
through their integration into an augmented reality (AR) environment. AR
allows a user to interact with a digital object that is superimposed in
reality using a digital camera. The widespread adoption of smartphones
allows this technology to be broadly accessible to the general public. The
MEGA Lab AR application allows anyone around the world to view and interact
with 3D models generated by scientists. Whether it’s used as an educational
gadget for students, an outreach tool for the curious, or a way to share
ideas with colleagues, this application immerses inquisitive minds into the
world's coral reefs. The app is available for download in both the google
play store for Android devices and the App Store for Apple devices. Please
see the attached flyer for details. *
