[Marine Biology]

Vacancy for a Coral Restoration Intern



Velaa Private Island is one of the most prestigious resorts in the Maldives where guest experience is of the utmost importance. All of the following requirements must be met in order to be considered for the position:



General weekly duties schedule\role:

* Data collection and entry

* Report to the resident marine biologist and coral biologist

* Coral Restoration Project duties including constructing, monitoring, and maintaining coral nurseries, transplanting coral colonies to the reef, and conducting scientific surveys

* Assisting the marine biologist in carrying out marine center activities with guests

* Awareness talks to guests

* Small personal project



Professional Requirements:

* Rescue Diver with at least 100 logged dives

* Strong knowledge of marine biology, corals, and coral restoration

* Degree in Marine Biology or related field preferred

* Previous experience with coral restoration projects is an advantage



Personal Requirements:

* Interactive, friendly & creative

* Passionate about conservation and sustainability

* Self-motivated, professional & full of positive energy

* Excellent communication skills

* Ability to work well independently and in a team



Other Requirements:

* Must provide own dive insurance and copies of dive certifications

* Own SCUBA gear mandatory (BCD, regulator, dive computer, mask, fins, snorkel)

* No visible piercings or tattoos whilst wearing uniform (shorts and short sleeved polo shirt)

* Must maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene at all times.



Terms & conditions:

* 1 year paid contract

* Visa costs and health insurance covered by resort

* 60% off F&B outlets in the resort

* Access to resort doctor free of charge

* Working days: 8 hours a day x 6 days per week

* Accommodation (shared room), meals & uniform provided by resort

* Work on a remote island within a multicultural team
