Hi Coral-list!

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the
University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science
(RSMAS) have an exciting opportunity for a full-time postdoctoral associate
position. The position is located at the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and
Meteorological Laboratory's (AOML) Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystem Division
(OCED) in Miami, FL.

We are seeking a candidate to conduct coral disease research by applying a
multi-omics approach to understand disease resilience and identify
causative agents of stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD). The research
will involve close collaborations with scientists at RSMAS, NOAA AOML,
CIMAS, and Mote Marine laboratory. We are seeking a postdoctoral associate
to lead the microbial analysis of this collaboration. The incumbent’s
primary activities will be processing hundreds of coral samples and
analyzing microbiome data to understand the relationship between SCTLD
coral resilience and the microbial community. This opportunity will be
under the mentorship of Dr. Stephanie Rosales. The duties of the successful
candidate will include:

   - Nucleic acid extractions
   - High-throughput sequencing library preparations
   - Bioinformatics and statistical analysis of meta-barcoded data
   - Preparation of the data for presentations, reports, and publications

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*

   - A Ph.D. in biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, genetics, data
   science, or another relevant field
   - Must have extensive experience in analyzing high-throughput sequencing
   data
   - Molecular/omics lab experience

The ideal candidate would also have:

   - strong communication and organizational skills
   - expertise in metagenomics and metatranscriptomics data analysis
   - expertise in microbial ecology
   - experience with flow cytometry (not required)
   - an advocate for increasing equity and diversity in STEM. As such,
members from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
