[Coral-List] Sign the Scientist Open Letter- the fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty

Dear Coral list,

The latest IPCC report, IEA report and UN Secretary are all calling for a stop of expanding fossil fuel expansion. To keep warming to below the temperature goal of 1.5ºC, as reflected in the scientific literature and the  IPCC’s special report on 1.5ºC, global greenhouse gas emissions need to be at least 45% lower globally by 2030. According to the most recent Production Gap Report, this requires an average decline in fossil fuel production of at least 6% per year between 2020-2030. However, the fossil fuel industry is planning to increase production by 2% per year.

A scientist Open letter was drafted and has been signed by 1900 scientists so far to ask for a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty. I wanted to circulate it here to make coral reef scientists aware of it. Please sign and circulate if you agree with the demands of the letter.  The initiative will be launched officially on Sept the 13th on the eve of the UN General Assembly.
