I am hiring a postdoctoral researcher to study reef algae in the Red Sea.
Though there is flexibility in the research focus, the applicant should
have an interest in the ecology and biodiversity of tropical macroalgae

*Postdoctoral Researcher:  Biodiversity and Ecology of Red Sea Macroalgae *
*Position description *
The Global Change Ecology Lab in the Red Sea Research Center at King
Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is seeking a
Postdoctoral Researcher to lead projects under the theme of biodiversity
and ecology of macroalgae in the Red Sea. The researcher will work closely
with PI Maggie Johnson to develop and implement novel questions geared
towards understanding the role of macroalgae on coral reefs in the Red Sea,
with a specific focus on coralline algae and calcifying macroalgae. The
researcher will be based at KAUST and will lead year-round, fully funded
field and lab work in the Red Sea. The position includes relocation costs,
health insurance, and salary commensurate with experience.

*Key Responsibilities *
Algae collections and identifications
Field ecology and physiology experiments
Characterization of environmental conditions using sensors and water
sampling
Data analysis and timely manuscript publication

*Minimum Qualifications *
PhD in biology, ecology, or related field
Experience with marine field work
Experience with molecular techniques (e.g., DNA barcoding)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Record of peer-reviewed publications

*Preferred Qualifications *
Scientific diver training and experience
Experience with coralline identifications and analyses
Experience with species identifications using DNA barcoding
Experience with algal or plant ecophysiology
