Dear coral listers,

The central theme of the National Science Foundation-sponsored Coral Bleaching Research Coordination Network (CBRCN) is to enhance transparency and comparability among bleaching studies and to discuss new ways of integrating data from these studies. In May 2021, U.S. and International scientists gathered virtually to discuss a common framework for coral bleaching studies to discuss necessary data and metadata needed to enhance bleaching research across numerous scales (molecular, physiological, and ecological), and to discuss which processes should be prioritized to better connect these different scales of study and improve predictive models and assist conservation efforts. The resulting manuscript from this workshop was recently published in Global Change Biology (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gcb.16192).

We invite the coral research community to join us in a webinar led by the CBRCN steering committee member Dr. Rob van Woesik (Professor, Institute for Global Ecology, Florida Institute of Technology) and Dr. Tom Shlesinger (Post-doctoral fellow, Institute for Global Ecology, Florida Institute of Technology) on Wednesday, May 18th from 1–2 pm Eastern time (U.S. and Canada). Drs Shlesinger and van Woesik will present the key conclusions of this workshop, and we will then open the floor for a discussion period moderated by Dr. Mark Warner (University of Delaware) and other members of the CBRCN steering committee.
