Dear Coral List,

please see below two available PhD positions for developing standardized ecotoxicological test with corals, which are available in the Environmental Biochemistry group at the University of Oldenburg, Germany.

Rationale
Due to multiple, human-induced stressors coral reef ecosystems are increasingly endangered on a global scale. The toxicity of chemicals that are flushed onto coral reef via sewage and runoff, or directly introduced by tourists and fisheries is largely unknown. Standardized tests such as procedures that have long been established for many freshwater organisms do not exist in the marine realm. Thus, suitable tests need to be developed and verified to systematical evaluate different chemical compounds for potential effects on coral reef organisms. The here advertised PhD positions are part of a joint project to develop acute and chronic ecotoxicological tests using scleractinian corals as test organisms.

1st Position:
PhD position: Development of standardized ecotoxicological tests with scleractinian corals with an emphasis on the chemical analysis.
Full announcement with focus on the chemistry: https://uol.de/stellen?stelle=68640

2nd Position:
PhD position: Development of standardized ecotoxicological assays with different life stages of scleractinian corals
Full announcement with focus on the biology: https://uol.de/stellen?stelle=68641

There is also a research assistant position available, working closely with the PhD projects:
Sustainable production of scleractinian corals via sexual reproduction.

Thank you,
Peter Schupp
