 Dear Todd and Coral List,
Bob Trench had an enormous influence on my life although I only met him briefly. In my first year as a graduate student at UCSB I was incredibly lucky to take his seminar class on symbiosis (Todd was the TA).  Dr. Trench articulated to me what we are trying to do: "Figure out the truth".
All the best,Andrew

The journal ‘Symbiosis’ just published a tribute to Robert K. Trench, a
Belizean who was a pioneer in the research of coral symbioses. Bob was a
respected scholar and mentor who was educated at UWI, UCLA and Oxford. His
work encouraged several disciplines of symbiosis research, especially on
the algal symbionts critical to coral health and growth; forming mutualisms
ultimately responsible for the very existence of coral reef ecosystems.
