Postdoc in Marine Sciences - University of NorthCarolina Wilmington’s Center for Marine Science

 

The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Center forMarine Science (CMS) is recognized both nationally and internationally forconducting research that contributes to the understanding of environmentalprocesses and problems. Through research, education and outreach, the Centerstrives to increase knowledge and cultivate public awareness about coastal andmarine sciences. This includes a variety of fields such as physicaloceanography; marine and coastal biology; marine, atmospheric and natural productschemistry; marine geology; and environmental sciences. Currently there are morethan 100 active research programs ongoing at CMS and over 140 scientists, staffand students at CMS. The teaching and research facility located on theIntracoastal Waterway in southeastern North Carolina features state of the artcore facilities in spectrometry and spectroscopy, light stable isotopes, DNAand water quality analysis as well as running seawater systems, a coastalworkboat fleet and a wide range of oceanographic equipment that are availableto all CMS researchers.

 

The primary responsibility of the Postdoctoral ResearchFellow position is to conduct research in coastal and marine sciences. Otherareas of interest will be considered that fall within the broad field of marinesciences. Specific areas of interest must be aligned with the current researchof two or more UNCW mentors from the link below. It is highly desirable thatthe work include interdisciplinary collaborations amongst the candidate andUNCW marine science faculty. The position will include opportunities to mentorundergraduate and graduate student research at the discretion of the UNCWmentors. Candidates from all marine and coastal sciences or other closelyaligned disciplines are encouraged to apply. Communication with potential UNCWmentors prior to submitting an application is required for guidance on projectfeasibility, relevance to ongoing research projects, resource availability, andexpected start date.
