The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (CIMAR) is
excited to announce two (2), full-time Supervisory Coral Reef Researcher
positions within the PIFSC Ecosystem Sciences Division based in Honolulu,
HI.

We are specifically targeting accomplished researchers with expertise in
one of the following areas:  (1) linking coral reef fish functional trait
diversity to critical ecosystem processes, (2) assessing and mitigating
effects of land-based sources of pollution on corals, and (3) restoring
viable coral populations in the U.S. tropical Pacific.



The ideal candidate will have the ability to conceptualize and build an
independent research portfolio.  They will work closely with partners in
local jurisdictions and research institutions to build collaborative
relationships to inform coral reef management in a changing ocean. Strong
applicants will have advanced analytical skills (including multivariate,
spatial and time series analyses, and statistical modeling) and proficiency
with R, R Studio, and GitHub. We value strong communication skills and
experience collaborating with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. This
is a supervisory position directing 3-4 CIMAR staff members.



QUALIFICATIONS:  PhD degree in Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, Ecology,
Oceanography, or a related field. Three to five (3-5) years of experience
leading coral reef ecosystem research including projects utilizing
underwater coral reef census survey methodologies. Experience managing and
analyzing large complex databases using advanced statistical procedures and
carrying research projects to completion. Strong publication record,
including first authorship on at least two peer-reviewed journal articles.
Experience leading interdisciplinary research teams. Ability to
conceptualize and develop proposals.  Must be science diver SCUBA certified
(AAUS, NOAA diver etc.) and able to participate in research cruises and
field work (typically 30 days per year->
