Thank you for these observations, Gene.  I’ve seen similar things in Jamaica, though on a more modest scale.  It is really important to keep geological and biogeochemical dynamical contexts in mind when we try to interpret the observations we make on any given day.  I wish everyone was able to do this!  Very edifying.
