Salary: AOF Level 4 to 5 salary ($90,321 to $124,181 per annum) plus 15.4%
superannuation (depending on skills and experience)

About this exciting opportunity
Joining us as an Experimental Scientist, you will lead and facilitate
research that contributes to an interdisciplinary research program, that is
working on testing and developing tools for coral restoration and
adaptation. As an experienced scientist, you will work with limited
direction to manage projects, resources and logistics that ensures the
success of experiments both in aquaria and in the field and identify/engage
with opportunities for collaborative research as they arise. The scope of
your role includes:
1: Leading and contributing to the design and execution of research that
improves the understanding of methods to improve the effectiveness of
restoration interventions,
2: Overseeing and participating in aquarium and field experiments,
including the collection and analysis of laboratory and field data,
3: Preparing scientific papers, technical reports and oral presentations to
communicate research to broad audiences,
4: Supervising and providing direction to technical staff, HDR students,
interns and volunteers, and
5: Engaging with Traditional Owners and external stakeholders to promote
the relevance and value of AIMS research activities and fostering
productive and collaborative relationships.

About you
You will have a PhD in Marine Biology, Ecology or relevant discipline or a
master’s in science with equivalent level of relevant experience, that
supports your extensive experience coordinating and conducting marine
science research and track record of successful multidisciplinary
collaborations in the laboratory and field. You will be familiar using a
variety of laboratory methods and biological and ecological sampling and
monitoring techniques in remote locations and have superior analytical
skills using open source and scripting environment.
You will have well developed written and verbal communication skills and a
collaborative style of working to effectively communicate with various key
stakeholders both internal and external to AIMS, and be comfortable
presenting scientific data in publications, reports and presentations. Your
experience writing and editing scientific publications will support this,
as will your project management experience to support leading research
activities.
