Dear Mr./Ms.,

My name is Auke Klein Entink, and I am addressing you to request your assistance in my research. I am working on an assignment for WWF-NL to develop an online, interactive exhibition that will visually demonstrate the history of coral reefs in the Dutch Caribbean.  As you may know, one of the main goals WWF-NL works towards is preserving the unique coral reefs in the Dutch Caribbean.

As such, the purpose of this project is to show if and how coral reefs have changed over time and will be told via photos, videos, facts, and figures. The exhibition will include:

  * a retrospective of historical media from historical and private collections

  * insights into the various (natural) pressures over time impacting coral reef ecosystems

It would be much appreciated if you could assist us in this effort by sharing your knowledge, documentation, and/or images. Do you have, or know about, any photos, videos, general publications (e.g. newspapers, magazines) or reports about (historic) corals, coral coverage, coral health, reef species biodiversity, and/or reef fish size from  Bonaire, Saba (including the Saba Banks), St. Eustatius, Curaçao, St. Maarten, or Aruba?

The exhibition will highlight the beauty, scope, and biodiversity of our past and present reefs and will be used by WWF-NL to raise awareness about the importance of protecting coral reefs in our region. There are several benefits to sharing your work with WWF-NL to support this endeavor. By allowing us to call attention to your work in the Dutch Caribbean, you will be helping us to protect coral reefs. Once translated into an easily understandable format for the wider public, WWF-NL will amplify the urgent message to conserve our reefs.

With your permission, the collected materials will be made available for future conservation work via an online repository. However, if you would prefer to only have selected materials available to share with a wider audience, please indicate this in advance and we will maintain the confidentiality of your work.

If you have materials to share and are willing to grant us access, please let me know and I will be in touch shortly to organize the details at your convenience. If necessary, I am happy to arrange a visit for us to discuss and/or assist in the review process. Our target is to have all materials compiled before the end of May. However, if a site visit to review materials is needed, please contact me at your earliest convenience so that I can schedule it with you.

On behalf of myself and the WWF-NL Dutch Caribbean team, we heartily express our gratitude for your consideration and future participation. We assure you that all protocols for source credits will be followed. We invite you to share this message within your network.

We highly appreciate your contribution. When providing materials, we request that you please indicate the year, island, location, and source (if available).

For more information or additional questions please contact Carolyn Caporusso (ccaporusso at wwf.nl) and/or Auke Klein Entink (akleinentink at wwf.nl).
