*Tenure Track Positions *

*Seeking dynamic research leaders for up to **two joint tenure-track
positions at the School of Zoology and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural
History, Tel Aviv University. *

The School of Zoology and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History (SMNH)
at Tel-Aviv University invite applications from exceptional candidates for
up to two joint tenure-track positions opening in October 2024.

The appointment is tenure-tracked, with a fixed term of 5 years, designed
to enable early career scientists to become tenured group leaders and to
develop an independent, internationally leading, research group. Successful
candidates will be provided with start-up funds, support with student
scholarships, and training in research and teaching management.

The School of Zoology <https://en-lifesci.tau.ac.il/zoology/?tab=0> is the
largest, most diverse institute for zoological research in Israel. The 24
researchers in the school cover many fields of research including ecology,
biogeography and macroecology, comparative and eco-physiology, conservation
biology, biodiversity and systematics, marine biology, neuroethology,
animal behaviour, behavioural ecology and evolutionary biology. The SMNH is
Israel’s National Center for Biodiversity Studies, focusing on biodiversity
research <https://smnh.tau.ac.il/en/research/> in the broad sense and
conservation science, and is recognized as a national biodiversity research
infrastructure. Most Zoology faculty members serve as SMNH curators or
museum scientists. Candidates who have scientific interests in zoology but
are unsure about their fit with the SMNH are strongly encouraged to apply
nevertheless. Previous experience in museum or collection-based research is
not a prerequisite for the position.

Candidates are expected to have a strong track record in the core research
areas of the school of Zoology and the SMNH (see above). They must have a
strong publication record and a clear research vision. Prior to obtaining
tenure, successful candidates are expected to raise external funding,
develop their own research programmes, contribute to the student learning
experience through teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and through
their research and personal tutoring, and contribute to the scientific
development of the SMNH as a national research infrastructure. They will be
expected to teach undergraduate courses, supervise MSc. and PhD students
and publish regularly in leading international journals. They will be
assessed during their appointment for progression to becoming tenured.
Women and candidates from minority groups are particularly encouraged to
apply.

To apply send (1) A letter of application. (2) Your CV (including your
publication list). (3) A research statement outlining your academic vision
and fit for the position (≤ 2 pages). (4) A teaching statement (≤ 1 page)
outlining your teaching philosophy and plans.

Be prepared to provide 3 recommendation letters upon request (which the
referees should send directly to the email address below).

Applications and all inquiries should be sent to:

1. Prof. Jonathan Belmaker jbelmaker at tauex.tau.ac.il, Chair of the
School of Zoology

2. Prof. Tamar Dayan Dayant at tauex.tau.ac.il , Chair of the Steinhardt
Museum of Natural History

*Closing Date: December 15, 2023*
