Dear Coral-Listers,

The EUROPEAN CORAL REEF SYMPOSIUM (ECRS) is held every four years and hosted in European countries on a rotation basis by the European Chapter of the International Coral Reef Society (ICRS)
The ECRS 2024 will take place from the 2nd to the 5th of July at Naples (https://ecrs2024.eu/), Italy, at the "Città della Scienza" and at the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station.

The CALL FOR ABSTRACTS is open and the deadline is December the 16th.

For this edition of ECRS, our energies will concentrate on bridging knowledge gaps between tropical, temperate, and cold-water coral reefs.
The symposium will bring together coral reef scientists, researchers, conservationists, policymakers, and reef managers to present the latest research findings and exchange current knowledge critical to advising international and national policies in the conservation and sustainable use of coral reefs.
The event represents a unique occasion to meet researchers working on tropical and temperate coral reefs. Twelve sessions will be organized covering the most urgent and challenging topics.
Three plenaries will open each conference day to provide a vision of the future of coral reef research challenges.

Sessions:
1 Lessons from the Past to Inform the Future
2 Coral Reef Structure and Functioning
3 Biology and Ecology of Holobionts in Coral Reefs
4 Global Climate Change and Environmental Stressors
5 Coral Reef Anthropic Pressures, Conservation and Restoration
6 Community-Based Monitoring and Ecosystem-Based Management
7 Shallow Temperate Reefs
8 Mesophotic and Cold-Water Coral Ecosystems
9 Technological and Methodological Innovation in Underwater Surveys and Data Analysis
10 Coral Reefs Under a Socio-Economic Perspective
11 Beyond Corals and Fishes - Evolution and Biodiversity of Neglected Reef Taxa
12 The Ocean Decade: The Science We Need for the Coral Reefs We Want

CORAL REEF special issue

Following the conference, a Coral Reefs special issue will feature peer-reviewed manuscripts related to the symposium. Springer's Coral Reefs, the official Journal of the International Coral Reef Society, is a widely indexed, multidisciplinary journal that publishes articles in electronic and print formats across broad fields of coral reef science. Authors of poster and oral presentations are welcome to submit their original manuscripts to the special issue by October 31st, 2024.

Please note, in Coral Reefs traditional publishing model is free of charge, while Open Access is subjected to an Article Processing Charge (APC). More information on the publishing options, fees and funding is available on the journal's website (https://www.springer.com/journal/338). Further details about the manuscript submission will be made available nearer the time of the symposium.

Best regards
