Aloha,
I am new to this list and thought I would introduce myself. I am the
Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands
Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve. Our reserve is a string of atolls,
volcanic islands, sea mounts and reefs that extend for 1200 miles North
and West of the main Hawaiian Islands. It has been estimated that
nearly 70% of all coral reefs in the United States lie in these waters.
We are currently undergoing National Marine Sanctuary designation and
recently held public meetings throughout the State of Hawai'i and in
Washington D.C. to collect public comment about designating the Reserve
as a National Marine Sanctuary. We received overwhelming response -
roughly 15,000 comments - most in favor of strong conservation in this
region.
Please visit our web site, listed below, or drop me a note if you would
like more information about the Reserve or just want to chat.
