 Hi Vassil,
Thank you for thinking of donating the pictures from the coral disease survey that we did in 1987 (I think). Both Harry McCarty and I grant permission for the pictures to be shared with all interested parties. We support these efforts to help educate the public about the changes that have occurred on Florida Keys, as well as tropical Western Atlantic, coral reefs during this time. When I started studying coral diseases, I certainly did not think that this would become the story of my life. I am happy to know that others have joined in these studies and we have learned much. But the challenge of changing human behavior to protect the earth's valuable living resources continues.

Dr. Joseph Pawlik kindly noted: "The Florida Keys videos are particularly
interesting because the narration mentions that coral diseases have been
seen and questions what the future may hold for the vibrant reefs recorded
in the footage". Such preoccupation made well back in the 1980s has a
simple explanation. Both videos were a byproduct of 1980s Key Largo
National Marine Sanctuary coral disease survey.  It was started by Dr.
Ester Peters and John Halas and I was lucky to join them. I treasure three
binders with more than a thousand underwater pictures, taken by Esther,
John and H. McCarty. Each picture brings information about taxon name,
location, conditions and the date it was taken.  There were diagnosed 14
diseases and growth abnormalities.  The observations on coral hyperplasms
in *Acropora palmata* appealed for actuopaleontological studies by
application of the principle of uniformitarianism. "Have you looked for
tumors among your fossil material" is the title of a poster (Zlatarski, V.
& E. Peters, 1986) presented in 1986 at the time of the Forth North
American Paleontological Convention in Boulder, Colorado and in 2007 during
the X International Congress on Fossil Cnidaria and Porifera, St.
Petersburg, Russia. In the past, I tried without success to provoke
curiosity in the 1980s survey. In the existing now interest I am looking
for contact with Dr. Peters in order to realize usage of the valuable
information and photo documentation.
