In September, the NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) convened a
panel of distinguished experts to conduct an external review of the
program. The panel was charged with assessing CRCP effectiveness over a
five-year period (FY2002-2006) and providing recommendations for the
future direction of the program. NOAA is pleased to announce that the
CRCP has received the panel’s report, which may be found at
http://www.coralreef.noaa.gov/review.html.
NOAA would like to recognize the efforts of the panelists and thank them
for their contributions. They had a tremendous amount of information to
evaluate and comment upon, and provided their report in a timely manner.
The CRCP is developing a framework within which we will craft the future
direction of the program. This effort will incorporate the review
panel’s recommendations, new mandates included in a reauthorized Coral
Reef Conservation Act, and suggestions solicited from reef managers,
scientists, advocates, and stakeholders.
