[Coral-List] Major new TV series on coral reefs - advice

There is a long and rich history of using the "city analogy" in explaining the function of coral reef ecosystems. However, until my dissertation, no one ever explored the effecacy of this as a valid instructional strategy. I've attached a copy here. I think you'll find it interesting and useful. The bottom line is this: Analogy-based instruction can be quite powerful, but there are some pitfalls. Done wrong, it can be counterproductive. And, as my research indicted, it's not necessarily effective for all audiences.
