I wanted to share that my book “Coral Whisperers: Scientists on the Brink<https://www.ucpress.edu/book/9780520298859/coral-whisperers>” was just published last month.

Many of you have contributed to this book, and for that I am very grateful. Jeremy Jackson, Peter Sale, and Bill McKibben were some of the book’s endorsers, and it is dedicated to Ruth Gates. Elizabeth Kolbert recently discussed it in the New Yorker (“How to Write About a Vanishing World<https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/10/15/how-to-write-about-a-vanishing-world>”) and it was just reviewed in the New Scientist<https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg24032080-800-coral-whisperers-review-how-global-warming-is-changing-researchers/> a couple of days ago (attached).

Here is a short blurb: In recent years, a catastrophic global bleaching event devastated many of the world’s precious coral reefs. Working on the front lines of ruin, today’s coral scientists are struggling to save these important coral reef ecosystems from the imminent threats of rapidly warming, acidifying, and polluted oceans. Coral Whisperers captures a critical moment in the history of coral reef science. Gleaning insights from over one hundred interviews with leading scientists and conservation managers, Irus Braverman documents a community caught in an existential crisis and alternating between despair and hope. In this important new book, corals emerge not only as signs and measures of environmental catastrophe, but also as catalysts for action.

Thanks again for the many hours, and the passion, that so many of you have invested and entrusted me with, which have made this book into a reality.
